Pastor James Soy
Senior Pastor

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7

It is with great privilege, joy, and anticipation that we, the congregation of the First Philippine Baptist Church of Houston, call Pastor James E. Soy as our new shepherd and overseer.

Pastor Soy received his Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree from Golden Gate Theological Baptist Seminary in Mill Valley, California in 2013. His life has been dedicated to serving God and joining His Kingdom work. He has a passion for serving others and making disciples for Christ. As a matter of fact, he is a church planter. Three and a half years ago, he started the Interface SF Church in San Francisco, California in pursuit of his vision to see people follow God in their lives and boldly share the gospel of Jesus Christ. As the lead pastor at Interface SF, he sought to reconcile the people of his community back to God with the Good News. Previously, he served in various ministerial roles in churches located in cities near San Francisco, such as the Christ Centered Baptist Church in Vallejo and the New Day Community Church in Stockton. Suffice it to say that his ministry experience since 2008 has been extensive, with preaching, teaching, mentoring, and counseling under his belt.

It is also worth mentioning that his experience in church ministry dates back to his early childhood years. His father was a pastor in the Philippines and a church planting strategist for Filipino Southern Baptist churches in the state of California for over twenty years.

In addition to being a minister, Pastor Soy is an educator. Prior to accepting the Senior Pastor position at FPBC, he worked as a substitute teacher in the San Francisco Unified School District. He graduated from California State University in Stanislaus, California with a BA in History in 2004.

Pastor Soy is a husband and a father. He is happily married to his wife Pia, with whom he has three wonderful young boys aged 8, 6, and 2. Together, they are praying for what God has in store for their family as they seek to exemplify their relationship with Jesus Christ in their daily lives.

To God be the glory as together, FPBC and Pastor James Soy make disciples and change lives for the Lord Jesus Christ!
